Are you already thinking about what you will do to your backyard even though it might be freezing cold outside? If so, that might be one of the smartest moves you make toward your 2019 gardening. Consider how rapidly the time has passed since summer ended. That is how fast spring of 2019 will be here. If you want to be ahead of the game by planning your landscaping early, from adding retaining walls to buying statuary for your backyard, here are some ideas that might help.

Retaining Walls

Is your backyard on a bit of a slope? If so, consider that a big bonus in your landscape plans. Think of what you can do with retaining walls to add interest to the landscaping. For example, consider having different tiers of land that are separated by attractive concrete walls. One tier could hold flowering plants like geraniums, daisies, and bougainvillea. The next tier might hold ferns, mosses, different high grasses, and succulents. Yet another tier could hold a rose garden. You get the picture, right?

If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, you could more than likely create the retaining walls yourself. If you're not comfortable with that, hire professionals to do the job for you. They might even fine tune your plans, For example, if you planned to have only cement in the construction of the retaining walls, professionals might have the experience to advise you to add brick or stone to your design, thus making it more dramatic.

Statuary

Have you considered having statuary as part of your backyard landscaping design? If so, there are certainly few limitations that could make your landscaping even more attractive. For example, if you selected retaining walls for part of the landscape design, consider adding things like decorative deer, bunnies, squirrels, and other animals to the planted areas. If one of the areas has a tree as part of the design, think of having statues of a little boy and a little girl reading a book under the tree.

If you want to have statuary as the focal point of your backyard landscape design, think of where you will put it. For example, a multi-tiered fountain or a wall fountain might be perfect additions to your landscaping. Maybe you love angel statues. If so, consider having a very large one, and add smaller cherubs at the base of the larger angel.
