Removing trees in winter might not be the best time to do it, but sometimes it has to be done. If you have had a big storm come through that knocked over or damaged some of your trees, then you need to have something done as soon as possible so that you don't risk further damage. Clear the Snow

You will want to clear as much snow as you can so that the tree removal service can get to the trees. This doesn't mean that you need to shovel your entire yard, but if you have created a path from your driveway to the damaged tree, that will help with access so that the tree service can get to removing the tree as quickly as possible. You don't necessarily have to dig it out if you trample the snow down in the area. Of course, you should only do this if you can do it safely so that you aren't risking your health and safety. 

Pick Up Debris

You will also want to make sure that you pick up as much debris from the storm as possible. Picking things up that may block your yard or make it hard to get to the damaged area will make it harder for the tree service to start their job. Don't try to move things that are heavy or that may be in precarious positions because you don't want to get hurt and the tree service will be better equipped to handle things like dangling limbs or trees that are being held up by other trees. They will be able to handle those things safely because they are going to have the training and equipment to handle damaged trees and to take them down without causing harm to people or property.
